Areas and Valleys

La Solana

La Solana is possibly the area with the highest known concentration of uninhabited villages. Located on the left bank of the river Ara, it is a clear example of the consequences of depopulation which took place in the Sobrarbe region during the second half of the 20th century.

14 villages and a hamlet existed until the middle of the last century in this valley. Wandering through these villages, which remained anchored in the past, certainly has its charm. A walk where nature, history and nostalgia go hand in hand.

Next to the harsh mountain lies the riverbank of Fiscal, with its soft meadows and its rich fishing grounds, characteristic of the only large unspoilt river in the Pyrenees.

Walking through the villages on the right bank is is a real plaesure. You will see towers, fortified houses, hermitages and the rescued JŠnovas, a victim of a never-built dam.
